First Confession… The Threads of My Soul
Why do we stitch?…..
Why do we spend THOUSANDS of our hours hunched silently over fabric and thread?….
What does it take… and what does it give?…
For me- embroidery helps take away my fears, and helps me find my voice.
tiny stitch, by tiny stitch, by tiny stitch…
…Over and over again until all the joys and sorrows of my deepest heart have found their way out into the world as tangible objects. For me, embroidery is meditation, it is prayer, and as long as my fingers and eyes can do this work- I’ll never give it up.
Hello and welcome to my first-ever blog post! I’m so glad you’re here! I’m excited to share with you my passion for embroidery- its history, its future, and stories of the incredible women and men who have poured their souls into this art form throughout human history.
Hand-embroidery is both an intimate and deeply personal art form, AND a force of protest and social change. It’s full of symbolism, soul-baring confessions, accusations, grace, joy, invitation, rage, forgiveness, grief, story-telling, and endless celebration.
Fabric and thread can hold the breadth of human emotion and history- often hidden in our everyday lives…
These threads speak…. are you one that can hear them?
Keep Stitching,
LeahJoy
Wishing you the best of luck! Can’t wait to read more.
